Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups
Toxic lives up to its title. Not just 100%, but probably 100 times over. For me, this was colossal garbage. At 3 hours and 14 minutes, the film feels less like something you watch and more like a test of how much patience you have left. Calling it a “hell ride” might actually be more accurate. A huge chunk of the runtime feels like the hero doing PR for his own image — one stylish pose, slow-motion walk and unnecessary elevation after another — rather than the film trying to tell its fictional story in any remotely convincing way. There were moments where I genuinely felt like I was sitting through someone’s endless sermon. The film keeps presenting everything with so much importance and attitude that eventually you stop caring about what it is even trying to say. The plot itself is ridiculously thin. Instead of building a strong story around it, the screenplay stretches that one simple line as far as humanly possible, mostly to create stylish environments around its period setting. Si
