The Conjuring: Last Rites
The Conjuring: Last Rites turns out to be more drama than horror. The plot ties back to the time when the Warrens had just welcomed their daughter Judy, while investigating a case and in the present, the spirit/demon from that very case returns to haunt their lives, bringing the story full circle. The first half sets things up well in the beginning but digs big into the Warrens’ family drama with few good moments in between. The second half offers plenty more but drags at times, with the emotional bits acting as a speed breaker. On the technical side, sound design plays a huge role, and watching it at Prasads with Dolby Atmos really elevated the chills, especially in the different sequences containing dolls (no spoilers!). Performances were ok, and the visuals plus lighting looked fantastic. Overall, The Conjuring 4 is definitely an improvement over the previous dud in the franchise, but still doesn’t come close to the level of the first two classics.
