Sinners
“Sinners” leans into vampire folklore with solid performances from the Michael B.Jordan & the lead cast. The original idea deserves credit, but the film only thrills in bits and pieces. It mostly stays grounded & some unusual decisions or say narrative holds it back from going all-in on the genre fun. Digging deeper, the first hour takes its own sweet time laying the groundwork for the vampire-hunting teased in the trailer. Conversations feel laid-back to a fault, making it seem like the film’s already dragging. While the second half picks up slightly thanks to rising tension and vampire interactions—though not consistently gripping. Also, the bit where vampires leave and then ask to be invited again? Makes zero sense. Ludwig Göransson’s score fits the film’s mood, but it’s far from his finest—especially after bangers like Tenet, Oppenheimer, and Black Panther. Is it a masterpiece? Definitely not.
