I honestly cannot put the right words to what I just experienced. This is unlike any other Resident Evil film I have ever seen. Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is a fresh reboot of the franchise, bringing plenty of humour into an intriguing thriller while delivering the right amount of innocence, drama, monsters, gore and pretty much everything in between. Austin Abrams is brilliant as Bryan. His screen presence, right from the very first second of the film until just before the credits roll, completely owns the movie. He takes us along on this bizarre journey from Colorado to Raccoon City, and remains at the centre of everything the film throws our way. Although this isn’t a straight-up horror movie, it has enough horror elements going for it. Humour is spread throughout the film. Jump scares? There are a few, and they are designed really well. Gore? There’s a lot of it. Monsters? You get a variety of them. It keeps shifting between these different elements without sticking to just one p
