Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut Nadaaniyan is drenched in colors and production richness, but its storytelling feels as fake as the lead pair’s pretend romance. First things first, anyone watching this movie will immediately feel disconnected by the dubbing—it doesn’t sound natural, more like voices straight out of a dubbing studio than real conversations. What could have been a simple Star Plus or Colors high school drama, wrapped up in a couple of episodes, is unnecessarily stretched into a 2-hour film—with zero emotional connect. Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut could have been a much better choice. In fact, his next film might as well be considered his real debut, because I doubt anyone will even remember that this one—with him and Khushi Kapoor—ever existed. Thankfully, it skipped a theatrical release—because at the box office, this would’ve been a massive disaster.
