Hunkkaar: The Roar
Nitya Mehra and Karan D. Kapadia’s Hunkkaar: The Roar neither arrives with a thunderous roar nor fades into a whisper — it rumbles somewhere in between, doing enough to hold attention without ever becoming as powerful as its title suggests. Despite its flaws, this star-studded limited series has enough going on in its storytelling that I never felt like abandoning it halfway or putting it aside to finish another day. Right from Episode 1, the world it builds and, more importantly, the way its characters are established become the primary reasons to stay invested. At the centre of the story is a minor who comes forward with an allegation of sexual assault against an influential spiritual leader — a self-styled godman whose words command devotion and whose following has grown into something resembling an army. What follows is a courtroom battle around whether those allegations can ultimately be proven. Aneet Kaur Padda as 17-year-old Vaishali left me with mixed feelings. In certain porti
