Coolie
Coolie is, quite unexpectedly, a disappointing revenge action drama from Lokesh Kanagaraj. It has “Rajinied” moments sprinkled here and there, but the rest is left to the crows. Nagarjuna’s Kingpin Simon is underutilized, Real Star Upendra is equally wasted, and while Soubin Shahir has a good screen presence, it never quite matches the weight of his character—or vice versa (I felt exactly what Rajini himself said during the audio launch). Anirudh’s score is the film’s real USP; no matter what’s happening on screen, his thumping beats (atleast in PCX) try to pull the audience back in. A few moments are whistle-worthy, though not all. As a standalone film, with a passable first half and a “where is this even going?” second half, Coolie fails to reach even the bare minimum expectations, leaving behind sheer disappointment.
