Chennai Love Story
Chennai Love Story is a below-average rom-com that has its share of decent moments, performances and good production values, but the lengthy screenplay makes getting through it more tiring than it needs to be. Commercial romantic entertainers running around 2 hours 20 minutes to 2 hours 40 minutes have become fairly common these days. What I didn’t realise before starting this was that Chennai Love Story was actually close to three hours long. That alone isn’t necessarily a problem—I’ve watched and enjoyed movies running beyond three hours. Length matters much less when the screenplay and direction constantly give you something to stay invested in. Unfortunately, this film doesn’t manage that consistently. I like Kiran Abbavaram’s performance. There’s a certain naturalness in the way he plays the character, and he seems comfortable with what the role asks of him. But one thing I’ve noticed with some of his films is how heavily they revolve around either the protagonist or the lead pair
