Bring Her Back
Philippou brothers Bring Her Back is a slow-burn psychological gore-thriller that thrives on strong performances and a unique narrative style but doesn’t fully land. While the story, an aged woman trying to resurrect her dead daughter by channeling her soul into a new body through a boy possessed by a rogue supernatural entity—has intrigue, the film takes too long to dive into the actual plot, feels tedious at points with little new to offer, and its climax, whether intended as happy or tragic, leaves much to be desired. A decent one-time watch, but not a film that lingers beyond, as it caters to a very specific set of audiences rather than all. If you haven’t watched the Philippou brothers’ last outing Talk to Me, give it a try—you may find it more gripping than Bring Her Back, or perhaps the other way around depending on your taste.
